Lamp Los Angeles Homeless. Lamp Community (formerly LAMP, Inc.), a non-profit organization in Los Angeles, pioneered the innovative Community Model design with great success. LAMP includes a drop-in center, shelter. This chapter describes the story of Los Angeles Men's Place (LAMP) – how they got started, what some of the struggles have been along the way, and how they have collectively managed to become a creative, effective model for serving the needs of homeless individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness. Two people I personally know have a nice apartment by them. Now that the model has proven so effective, the question has been raised: how might other housing and service providers duplicate the unique characteristics of the Community Model?
